Valheim set a record when over half a million aspiring Vikings jumped online to play at the same time. Today, the game is still just as popular, with players from all over the world preparing to face all kinds of combat and adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned Viking vet who played during early access or just recently joined for a new Norse adventure, you’re sure to enjoy this entertaining survival game.

You might already know, but it’s becoming more and more common for dedicated players to host their own servers for their favorite games. This certainly isn’t new for those playing in your favorite Viking universe. Hostari offers secure servers for you and your friends to play seamlessly, with mod support whenever you need it. Sometimes a regular server just doesn’t get the job done, so if you’re trying to take your gaming to the next level, hosting a server is a great option.

Getting ready to repair tools & weapons in Valheim

The vast forests and icy fjords of Valheim are sure to keep your gameplay ripe with adventure. At any moment you might find yourself fending off a wild boar or other unexpected creature. Each encounter you face is going to put some wear and tear on your tools and weapons. It’s normal that every now and then you’ll have to take time to repair some of your items.

It’s easy to keep tabs on each of your items with Valheim’s helpful durability meter. Each weapon, tool, and piece of armor have a durability meter underneath its icon. This bar slowly decreases as you use the item. When it runs out completely, your weapon or tool has become unusable and you’ll need to get it repaired.

There are enough challenges as it is in the game, so it’s nice that repairs are more like a reprieve. When it comes to repairing your tools and weapons, it’s pretty straightforward. Valheim makes it simple for players to maintain their most used weapons and tools. Get everything fixed as soon as possible so you can get back to what matters most—slaying your enemies and overpowering bosses.

Before you can get started on repairing anything though, you’ll need to craft a workbench.

How to craft a workbench in Valheim

A workbench is a necessary component of any repair setup. If you’ve crafted anything, you’ll already have one, but there’s a chance you might not be able to get to it. The first thing to note is that you’ll need basic shelter to protect your workbench.

This is especially important if you find yourself away from base. You can always chop down some trees for materials and build a workbench, but you’ll need to have the right place to put it for it to work. If you’re on base, it’ll be easier to establish a location for this device. Either way, the workbench is your first step to repairing tools and weapons in Valheim.

Once your workbench is good to go, you can focus on repairing any items that might need attention. It doesn’t matter where you begin, just that you finish mending them all!

Remember, you might have used your workbench before without a roof over it. However, this only works for building the most basic of structures. If you want to be able to interact with the workbench and do things like repairs, you need to have a roof over your workbench.

Fixing buildings in Valheim

Repairing damaged building parts is quite easy:

  • Equip your hammer,
  • Open the build menu,
  • Have the wooden hammer icon selected and marked as repair.

You can see which parts are damaged as displayed by the health bar. Just left-click on the ones you want to repair. Repairing buildings also does not cost any resources, so you can do this for free!

Setting up your workbench is a lot like setting yourself up with a server. Without the right setup in place, you’re certain to hit a wall. You don’t want to find yourself making all the right progress, only to find you need to stop and find better conditions. Without a reliable server and automated backups, you’re risking a loss of quality of gameplay and just an overall lesser experience.

Hostari offers their hosts an array of perks, including: instant setup, custom control panel, global data centers, automated server backups, access controls, secure servers, modding support, and even chrome extension for mods. They are committed to providing the most valuable experience out their for anyone playing Valheim.

How to repair your tools and weapons in Valheim

You’ve been dropped into the secret 10th realm of the Norse cosmos. You have all the weapons and tools a Viking could need for any challenge. But there’s one thing wrong—you’ve depleted most of your strongest items. Whether you recently had to take on a boss or just dealt with your average pest, it’s important you take advantage of any moment you have to repair any depleted tools and weapons.

As stated above, your workbench is the first point of entry for repairing your weapons and tools. So, get that sorted out first. You can either craft one on the spot or use one at your base.

Once your workbench is ready to go, the rest is simple. Follow these steps to repair your entire inventory of tools and weapons in Valheim:

  • Make sure the items you need to repair are in your inventory.
  • Press E on your keyboard.
  • Open the workbench menu.
  • Click the small hammer icon—aptly labeled “repair an item.”
  • Since there is no way to see which tool is being fixed, just go through all of them until your whole inventory is at full operating value.
  • Enjoy your repairs free of charge!

The image below provides a basic visual for the process described above:

Since this can be a pretty repetitive process, especially if you have a lot of repairs to make, test your connection and make sure that your PC performance is up to par. You should never have to play in conditions that might inhibit how you need to perform in the game.

What else can you repair?

While there are a lot of tools and weapons you can repair in the game, there are some other things you might want to consider looking at while you’re fixing things up.

You’ll already have a workbench by this point, but if you don’t already have a forge and smelter, you’ll want those to make a wood cart (wood x20, bronze nails x10)

This can be used to move your heavy items. However, like most other items, the cart will face some degree of wear and tear. There are a couple of ways to mitigate this issue, depending on your preference:

  • Minimize damage by creating roads with your hoe tool.
  • Use the hammer to repair your cart—as long it’s within the proper distance from your workbench. (don’t forget you can always craft a workbench in desperate situations)

Fixing boats in Valheim

You can also consider building a dock to repair other items like a longship Valheim boat, raft, and karve

Fixing your server performance

One last thing you can repair is your server performance. Test your connection here to determine if hosting with Valheim Server Hosting is right for you. Simply verify your country and click ‘test your connection.’ On the top right of the dialog box, you’ll see a speed pop-up with your results. This numerical result is called your “ping.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a ping (packet internet/inter-network groper) is a basic program that allows users to test for different measures of data. For an internet speed test, your ping is testing how fast a data signal is traveling from one computer to a website. You might want to use this in any other setting where you anticipate needing a strong connection.

This measurement can also be used to determine response times and improve upon your connectivity. For more information on how this works, or to just get started with your own server for free.

Got your toolkit ready?

Valheim is an incredible dive into another universe. Players get to experience Norse life and face the challenges that come along with the missions set out by Odin. If you want to get the most out of your playing experience, it benefits you to learn as much as you can about your assets.

Your inventory is your toolkit in Valheim—your tools and weapons are the make or break of your success as a Viking in the 10th realm. At the end of the day, your tools and weapons are your first line of offense as well as defense. Norse-influenced gameplay requires users to wield a vast array of tools and weapons.

You never know what might be waiting around the corner, so it’s important to replenish whatever defense supply you have, whenever there’s a window of opportunity. As mentioned previously, you can always build a workbench out of chopped-down trees if you’re in a pinch. So don’t fret if you feel like you’re running out of resources.

For high-end servers and reliable data centers, your best bet is hosting with Hostari. Worry less about your connection, and more about carrying out Odin’s request to destroy the Forsaken Beast of myth and legend.
