Best Rust Solo Servers for Single-Player Gaming
Rust is a hugely popular multiplayer game, where players build, craft, explore, team up, and backstab to survive in a hostile environment. While the game is meant to be a PVP, new players may find it difficult to get ahead when facing hundreds of other players.
Fortunately, there are ways to play completely solo — you just need to join a Rust solo server. And in this Hostari guide, we’ll be telling you how!
What is a Rust Solo Server?
A Rust solo server is just a private dedicated server that’s focused on single-player. This means no PVP action — just PVE. You can experience the game and learn the basics without getting attacked by other players. Solo servers are usually wiped each month, deleting everything, so players can start all over.
Why Are Rust Solo Servers Important?
Complete Control
Playing on a Rust solo server gives you full control over your actions since you don’t have to work with other people. You can choose what resources to gather, what items to craft, and what structures to build. You’re able to play at your own pace without worrying about interference from others.
More Immersive Experience
Solo servers can provide a more immersive experience because you’re able to focus more on the environment and gameplay with no player disruptions. You can take the time to learn basic game mechanics and improve your skills in preparation for PVP.
Lower Risk
Playing alone means lower chances of getting attacked or killed since you’re not facing off against other people. This provides a much more relaxed gaming experience, which is especially beneficial if you’re not the type who enjoys intense, fast-paced gaming.
How to Play Rust on a Solo Server
Before doing any of these steps, make sure to purchase and install Rust onto your device. You can find the game on platforms such as Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.
1. Download the Dedicated Server
If you’re looking to create your own solo server, you’re going to need access to a dedicated server. You can rent one from Hostari by paying a monthly fee. Experience high-quality game performance with our high-end Intel Core i9 9900K hardware and secure networks.
Alternatively, you can download a local server from Rust’s website using this link.
2. Extract the Server Utility & run it on Your Computer
Once the server has finished downloading, extract the folder and locate the Run_DS.bat file.
Launch the file to start installing the dedicated server onto your device.
When the server installation is completed, start the server by just running the Run_DS.bat file again.
3. Open the Game & Configure it
Now that you’ve got your dedicated server ready, it’s time to open up the game on the server and configure it. Edit the Run_DS.bat file or create a new batch file. Here are some examples of command lines you can type out:
echo off (stops server from showcasing all executed batch commands)
+server.worldsize X (sets world size — 1000 to 6000)
+server.maxplayers X (sets number of player slots)
goto start (restarts server when shutting down)
+server.port 28015 (default client connection port)
+server.level “Procedural Map” (chooses the server map)
+server.seed X (shape of the generated world — 0 to 2147483647)
server.hostname “Server Name” (sets the server name)
+server.description “Server Description” (sets the server description)
+rcon.port 28016 (RCON client connection port)
+rcon.password “password” (sets RCON password — no spaces or symbols)
Remember to periodically check for server updates by running the update batch file.
4. Access the Game Console
When you’re done configuring your server, return to the game and press F1 to access the game console. Type in the command for joining the server:
Client.connect localhost: 28015
5. Press Enter & run the Command
After typing out the command, press Enter to run it and wait until you’ve connected to the server. Alternatively, if you’re connecting to another computer, you need its IP address.
How to Install Rust Oxide
If you want to customize your server, you can install Rust Oxide, which is a Rust mod that lets you add numerous plugins to your game world. Here’s how you install the mod:
Make sure to turn off your server first
Click the ‘download’ button to install the latest version of Rust Oxide
Extract the Rust Oxide folder
Copy the RustDedicated_Data file, and paste it in your server folder (overwrite the original file).
Launch the server
