‍Valheim has become one of the hottest PC games on the market and with good reason - it has plenty of options for players to enjoy the game, whether playing it solo or with others. The Viking-themed survival game becomes even more of a challenge, when opting for player versus player (PvP) gameplay, which emphasizes the survival part of the game clearly. So how can you enable PvP and are there any hacks? Let’s discuss!

How to enable PvP on Valheim

First things first, you must be playing on a Valheim dedicated server. You can set up your own using a service like Hostari. Either way, it’s best to find one of these in order to optimize gameplay.

Next, you’ll want to choose the “create a p2p-based play session” after starting up the game. The prompt will then ask you whether you want to join a public or private session. All this means is you can either choose to play with people you know, or with complete strangers. More information on the differences between those two can be found here. Both are fun and offer completely different experiences!

Keep in mind that each dedicated server has a limit of up to ten total players. Last but not least, you turn on the PvP feature by choosing the “PvP” Setting from the “Inventory” screen. That’s it! You’re now ready to go and fight against multiple other players for your life and resources.

How PvP works

In order to get the most out of PvP, you’ll want to know how it works. Many players love PvP simply for the joy of trying to take out other players. However, it doesn’t work quite like most imagine it would. You can’t just simply jump a player out of left field and start a fight. Valheim PvP operates a bit more civilized than that.

In Valheim PvP, players must first offer a fight to the other player, and that person has the right to agree or not agree to the fight. This has its advantages, especially for new players who may be at a clear disadvantage with a lack of weapons when challenged by a more seasoned player who is fully decked out.

Also, if you’re one to cheat and try to give yourself an advantage by changing up some of the commands, you’ll have to forget that while in PvP mode. Cheats are actively not enabled and therefore everyone is really able to fight each other fair and square. If you want to know how you can gain an advantage over another player in order to win a duel, read on below.

Weapons

When participating in a PVP, it’s crucial that you have the best weapons possible. Whether you’re the one with the better weapon will determine how the duel ends up going. Two weapons that can be highly advantageous in a battle are the bow and the sword. If you have either of those, you are likely to win the fight.

Armor

The same can be said for your protective gear like armor. If you don’t have the best weapons, the next best thing you should keep an eye out for is impenetrable armor. Be sure to keep in mind what kind of material the armor is made out of as well, as that can either benefit or hinder you in a fight. One popular choice of armor is Troll Hide, as it allows for the player to be well protected while still allowing you to move around easily

Food

Valheim mimics real life in the sense that it gives characters a clear advantage if they’ve eaten properly before a duel or challenge. Players will want to make sure they eat up before entering a duel. Eating meat can be even more beneficial as this allows for players to receive a big buff. So be sure to fuel up on some Serpent Stew and Lox Meat Pie before heading into battle.

Comfort

It may seem odd that the practice of hygge has its own application in the Viking world of Valheim, but comfort can provide an advantage in battle. By having the ultimate comfortable home, the Viking is awarded highly on the comfort meter. This impacts battles by allowing health and stamina to not decrease as quickly during a battle than if the comfort meter were low.

Make sure your fire is going strong, and that you have a solid bed for your Viking character. Similar to how in real life getting good rest is determined by your bed and therefore determines how well you perform during daylight hours, the Viking’s ability to defend himself is also impacted by the quality of his bed.

Not the Main Feature

Many players enjoy the fact that they can play with others multiplayer-style, or can choose to go the PvP route. However, it’s important to note that the game wasn’t originally set out to be played that way. For example, since dedicated servers limit the amount of people you can play with, you will never have a massive amount of opponents.

Valheim may change in the future, as the demand for more interactions with others grows, however in the meantime it’s important to simply enjoy the multiplayer options that currently exist and are available.

Getting the most out of Valheim PvP

While it may not have been in the original concept, Valheim PvP can help to mixup the game by adding another layer of challenges. It’s also a great way to make sure your friends know that you’re the best player out of everyone.

Like any game PvP, the experience is highly dependent on the quality and speed of your server host. Hostari provides unparalleled performance with its dedicated servers, providing you and your friends a seamless and smooth playing experience.
